Hair envy, fashion musings and the like

So I'm definitely digging this girl's style. Her outfit looks effortlessly cool, her hair is in the perfect messy updo(in my opinion, i have visions of my hair looking like this) and her makeup is fresh.  Are those green flecks I see in my eye or just the hint of jealousy at this girl's look?

When I go to school I either see one of two things:
1) Girls completely made up, hair done, and a mediocre outfit that looks like they bought it off the mannequin at our local forever21(meaning everything matches, but it's nothing special- everyone's got the same shirt on in one week)
2) Girls with no makeup, hair in a pony or just left down, and in sweatshirts

Honestly, I have no desire to be either of these. I'm not trying to knock anyone's style because I get up early too and am incredibly lazy sometimes(and other times I feel like dressing up) but I like a happy medium- messy hair, fresh makeup, and an outfit that Mary-Kate Olsen or Rachel Zoe would wear. Lately I'm feeling the drapey layers, tons of jewelry, and sky-high clogs. With this look in mind I went to the mall last weekend(there goes my October budget...) to grab a few things. I already like my current wardrobe- I periodically clean out my closet and make an executive decision on what goes / what remains in the closet.

Mainly I was focused on getting three things:
  • Black blazer
  • Clogs
  • Beanies / knit caps
  • Nude lipstick
I threw the nude lipstick in there just for good measure. Plus I knew MAC's Venomous Villains collection had just come out and there was the perfect nude in the Cruella De Vil subcollection. But more about that later :)

I stopped in at Macy's first because I couldn't justify going to Steve Madden and dropping $100-or so on one trendy item. And just my luck- I found a pair of clogs on sale for $37 by Rampage (I apologize in advance for any rubbish photobooth pictures, I haven't seen my camera around in months)
Now, there is a catch to finding this great deal. They only had 9 1/2, and my shoe size tends to go between an 8 1/2 - 9. So it's a stretch but they were too cute to pass up at such a great price. I read somewhere that you can make shoes up to one size bigger with the right insoles so I decided that I could make them work.
I love the height these give me! I'm about 5'6" which is taller than most in my town(or LA in general i think) so I generally wear flat boots or my beloved vans for school, work, etc... But I love a good heel for nights out or on days I feel a little boring and want to spice it up. These babies are 6 inches but some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn(I think it's due to the chunky heel, which adds stability)

After Macy's I went to the ever-abundant Forever 21 to find a blazer. I had been looking online for one but if I found one I liked it would sell out within a few days(rip leather blazer, I wanted you so bad) or they just didn't have much in stock. Since they don't put everything online right away I figured I would have more luck looking in the store. (And if that didn't work, I knew Express would have them but at a higher price). As soon as I walked in I was smacked in the face with two racks full of blazers and blazer-type jackets- success! You know the drill: pull one of each style off the rack, add to pile on arm, and head to the dressing room. The first few were a little boxy, the shoulders didn't fit right, and/or the sleeves were awkward. Then I found it: *insert photobooth*

On the hanger I thought it was going to end up in the rejects pile, but it's surprisingly fitted and the sleeves roll up just right. Yes, there is slight paddage going on in the shoulders but it's nothing drastic or ridiculously trendy
This will run you about $30, so not too sleep :) I liked that it was lightweight but still looked professional and a little bit dressy, it's perfect for fall in LA where it can be 90 degrees with no breeze one day, then in the 70's and windy at the end of the week. Quick example: on Wednesday of this week I was in bed wearing sweats and a hoodie, drinking cup after cup of hot tea while enjoying the rain outside, and today(Friday) I'm wearing a tank and shorts, sitting in the window as I write this. Back to the clothes though. I would love to pair this blazer with
  •  A lace tank
  • Black cutoff shorts
  • Gladiator sandals
  • Tons of necklaces
  • Tan leather cross-body bag
Just give me some breezy waves and subtley smokey eye makeup and I'm ready for class.
While I was in line at Forever 21 I noticed some cute chunky knit beanies by the counter, one in particular in this deep mossy green color. *and add to bag* They also had a plain black which I considered a staple in my wardrobe so I picked up one of those two. These are usually around $4.80-5.50, the styles vary a little bit.
The green one is a bit deeper in person but you get the idea :) I love hats because they add warmth in cold weather and look chic in hot weather. They're also good if you've got a case of the greasies and no time to wash your hair in the morning. A little warning with these though- Forever21 hats sometimes have elastic string at the edge, which are supposed to aide in keeping the hat on your head but I think it just makes them sit funny on my head sometimes.

I choose to just snip these and take them out, it gives it a slouchier effect.

Last but not least, a trip to the MAC store was in order. When I looked online, nearly everything was sold out and I was dying to get the nude lipstick in the Cruella De Vil collection. It's similar to Myth(also by MAC) but doesn't look dry on the lips. I got this photo from MakeupAlley because it was a lot better in quality than I could have taken.

All I can say about this is that I love it and bought two so I would have a backup.

So that's the end of my first blog post, I decided I love Lollipop26's blog so much that I wanted to start doing my own. Later girlies!
