MAC, Katy Perry, and Other Wanderings

Winter break means I get 2 months off, the first month was spent on holidays and shopping(what torture) so I've got some 'loves' to share. This next month I'm planning on spending getting healthy again, spending time with friends while we are all off, and getting ready for school in a few weeks.

Prepping(aka shopping) for hauls is a favorite pastime and I did a good amount of damage. *insert picture of top favorites*

I’ve always been the girl who, given the choice, would pick Sephora over MAC during a mall trip. Part of it was that I liked having more products and options in one place- if the fragrance section called my name in Juicy Couture-scented whiffs, I could peruse and smell as I pleased or just go look at the Wall of MUFE(as I so cleverly named it). But I have finally caught the MAC bug. I picked up 6 products in two days! Highly unnecessary but they are pretty, aren't they?

This is well on its way to becoming my everyday look, minus cheeks

Select SPF Foundation in NW20

I like that this gives buildable coverage but still looks natural and the formula seems to be non-irritating. And it has SPF 15, which is always a plus to me. I like having SPF in my products so that way I can't forget to protect my skin.
(side note: I'm one of those poor fools who thought NC meant cool-toned and NW meant warm-toned until the artist explained that NC colors are more yellow-based and NW is a slightly pinker base. A little more online probing after I got home confirmed this. At least now I know.)

MSF Natural in Medium Plus
I'm loving this powder especially! Since my skin is a mess right now I need a little more coverage and there's more to set, this does the trick without looking cakey. Mind you, I apply with a very light hand. I still cringe after I get my makeup done at MAC and see myself in the car- the artists apply a lot more than I feel is necessary but it's not like I have them doing my face up every day so I can deal.

Sable shadow

This photo does not do it justice and makes it look more like Mythology but I'm sure you get the point :> A Lollipop26-fueled purchase and my favorite eyeshadow possibly ever! Only topped by Toasted by Urban Decay, which is similar in color but when swatched do look different.

Feline eye kohl
I've seen this around the blogosphere and in plenty of videos but hadn't ever felt the need to go out and try it. But I'm almost done with my latest Zero from UD and decided to give this a whirl. Two dollars cheaper, can't hurt to try. I haven't really worn it except to touch up old liner that had faded during the day(this was purchased two days ago, since then I haven't worn makeup haha) but so far I'm a fan. Plus it's named 'Feline,' which sucked me in like the cute packaging of Benefit products.

Angel lipstick
Basically a dupe/better version of my natural lipcolor with a little shimmer/frost. I never gave frost finish lipsticks a second glance because I associate 'frost' with chunky white-pink lips from before my time but there may be hope after Angel. It's about 12am and I just couldn't get the lighting right to capture Angel's true color, I'll try again next post in natural daylight. I already butchered Sable in this one.

Calm Mode lip conditioner
This lip conditioner has lavender added, which gives it a really pleasant smell and I found is healing my lips amazingly! After three years of wires and brackets and metal in my mouth, my lips are in need of some TLC

Sequined Flower Headband
[pictured above with Feline & Calm Mode] After taking our last finals, my friend and I decided to have a little girl’s day- lunch, mall, starbucks, and lotsa talking. That’s when we stumbled upon this little lovely in Forever21! I love Forever21 for trendy accessories because everything is cheap and by the time you’re onto the next trend, you’ve worn it enough times to make it worth the minimal price. It’s part-flapper, part-Carly Cristman(um, hello, sequins), and part fabulous(okay, I borrowed that from her too). I love wearing my hair wavy with this for a relaxed but edgy look. Expect an OOTD soon featuring this!

Benefit HighBeam

I can't go a day without wearing this. It gives a very subtle glow to the skin and blends easily. I like to apply it to the tops of my cheekbones, browbones, and the bridge of my nose.

China Glaze For Audrey

A beautiful turquoise polish that looks good on fingers or toes. I found it pretty easy to work with, especially considering another color I picked up that wasn’t so easy or worth mentioning right now.

Sonia Kashuk Makeup Remover

All it takes is one swipe of this with a cotton pad and my makeup is gone! By far one of the best makeup removers I've used. It also doesn't sting if you happen to put a little too much on the cotton and end up squeezing some into your eyeball. Not that I did that last night or anything.

Starbucks Reusable Tumbler!

I can't get enough of this! I love starbucks, I love cool cups, and I love candy-cane striped straws! My drink of choice at the moment: water. Trying to hydrate my skin from the inside, especially since I have a heater pointing at me as I type.

Purr by Katy Perry
Mini-review time! My mom got me this for Christmas and I love it! Before it came I knew I would either love or hate the smell, but love it because it’s a perfume in a purple cat bottle.

What they say-
“Purr by Katy Perry eau de parfum begins with the aroma of peach nectar and forbidden apple, evolves with a distinct floral bouquet of jasmine blossom, Bulgarian rose and vanilla orchid, and slowly reveals accents of creamy sandalwood and musk. Like the singer herself, Purr is playful yet sophisticated. Katy Perry transcends barriers with her music—so does her new fragrance.”

I think-
This is my new favorite! I was a little caught off guard when I first sprayed it because it does come off as a sophisticated scent. On my skin, I think the orchid comes out more than it does in the bottle or on someone else. If you douse yourself in the stuff it’s going to be overwhelming at first but fades wonderfully. I like giving my wrist or hair a little sniff throughout the day. I call this my “big girl scent,” which amuses me for two reasons- that I have a big girl scent at all and also because the bottle is shaped like a cat. Did I mention yet that the packaging makes me love it even more??

Purr can be purchased exclusively at Nordstrom, and runs $45-65

The Tudors
I’m a huge fan of period dramas! Especially ones based around Henry VIII, with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Henry. Beautiful costumes, subtley radiant makeup, and a great cast make it one I watch over and over. Perhaps the makeup will inspire a new FOTD

Healthy Beginnings

Yoga, at least one salad a day(with minimal dressing and cheese :) and water-guzzling makes for a fresh feeling inside and out. It’s also easier to focus throughout the day when I’m not thinking about how sluggish the pizza i had is making me feel or craving more junk later.

Extended Break

I only have 4 classes left to graduate, none of which were being offered for winter intersession, which means an extra month off for me!! Then begins my last semester at this school and home.

Three Things I’m Not so Crazy About

Bliss Foaming Face Wash- I wanted to like this, I really did! It has a very pleasant fruity smell(not overpowering), small exfoliating beads, and leaves your skin feeling refreshed. But I would definitely hold back recommendations for those with sensitive or dry skin. I have combo-dry and extremely sensitive skin and my face is a disaster after only 2 weeks of use. There are flaky patches, painful blemishes on my cheeks(areas that are typically dry and never breakout) from over-production of oil caused by extreme moisture suckage on part of the cleanser, and a patch of eczema creeping up on my jawline.

Early Morning Renovations- our new neighbors will be moving in at the end of the week, so the landlord is really getting to it with the repairs. And there are many...which apparently requires starting work at 7am every day.

Sore Throats- thank goodness for Yogi’s throat soothing tea! If I get sick(even just a cold) it usually means an extremely sore throat, stubborn fever and the sniffles for a weekend. The tea
, along with copious vitamin c supplements, is making me thing I’m staving off any hint of a cold.
