Style Snack: Bitten by the Summer Bug & Carly Cristman love

The greatest thing about southern California(in my mind, at least) is that you rarely have time to really miss summer. It's usually cold and wintry through the holiday season, but January-March varies. For instance, it was 90 degrees the other day- yes, in JANUARY! Love it..too bad I'm still never tan.

With the warm weather, January has brought a new style fav: Crop tops and flowerclips
[love this style so much that I got three in the past week!]

I adore summer clothing because it's what gets the most wear throughout the year. Traditionally, once fall hits its coat/sweater shopping season but I typically only get one or two lightweight sweaters every year because I just don't wear them often enough. Going against the grain, I like to splurge on items like tees and shorts. Almost every magazine 'Splurge vs. Save' feature I've read says to save on these haha. But what would life be if we did what everyone else does?]

I love this Aerosmith tee! It's slouchy and can be worn off the shoulder or any way your heart desires. Because it had a very boxy shape, I like tying it on one side and wearing it off the shoulder.
I snapped this one morning - varied OOTD, if you will. Raybans and feathers? Love. This was about $24 at PacSun
This grey WildHeart one has a more interesting shape, with the back being slightly longer than the front. It shows a little skin in the front but the back hits just below the tops of your jeans and frames your rear, a flattering effect for curvier behinds. I got this at a boutique in my town for $18

This is my most recent cropped acquisition- and probably my favorite! I think the slightly washed peach color is super pretty and not too overdone for 'winter' but still brings a little light to my wardrobe. I feel like it shows a lot more midriff than the other two so unless it's a beach day I wear this with jeans and boots. To extend the style more, you could layer a cami underneath. Since I have a combination of athletic and hourglass figures(meaning- I have broad shoulders and good muscle tone but a naturally curved shape) I would wear a navy or black cami so there isn't a block of light color around one of my my widest areas- hips. The material floats over my waist to show it off but leaves my hips exposed. It was $14 at another small store in my town.
Which brings me to another new favorite item. While browsing through the store I found this!

I am not a huge fan of animal prints but this had so many layering options and just looked so cute I had to get it. My favorite is the back!
The lace detailing is soo pretty and would be so cute peeking out of a backless top/dress or skinny racerback tank.

My flowerclip obsession wasn't completely original. I took a huge bite of inspiration from my friend Emily(she's such a flowerchild :) and this picture.
 See the similarities? haha
The small fabric flowers add a touch of femininity to any outfit without it looking like you planted a garden in your hair. If California takes a 180 and gets cold again(actually, there's little doubt in my mind that the first day of this semester is going to be cold and/or rainy after all this sunshine), the could be worn with a leather jacket, distressed jeans, and combat boots.

The inspiration for my hair today came from Carly! Her most recent video - click here to watch - looked so easy that I had to give it a try. This is a good style for lazy days when you need your hair outta yo face but a bun or ponytail feel too severe.

Some quick CC love:
This girl needs no introduction. Unless you want to mention her affinity for cream dresses and jackets, ability to quote Mean Girls at the drop of a hat, or love for Andy Warhol quotes. Plus her initials always remind me of Chanel.
I <3 Carly's style and think she is fab-u-lous. Her videos are so fun and easy to watch because she understands that not everyone wants to watch a 14 minutes tutorial(that's what her vlogs are for :). Whether it's blowing snowflake kisses or letting her other personality make an appearance, she spends a lot of time editing her videos, which sets her apart from everyone else. Also, she's hilarious. Follow her Twitter if you don't already :) Carly, if you're reading this- you are amazing!! I love you and happy early birthday! I hope you have a great time celebrating next week!
