New Semester, New Beginnings, Blah Blah Blah

Beginning of the Semester Promises to Myself:
1. Ease up on the caffeine
2. Don't talk to the people around me while the teacher is teaching. Some people find it annoying and I end up missing the important parts of the lecture.
3. Wake up with more than 4 minutes to get ready in the morning. While it can be done(it's actually been done in 2 minutes and 43 seconds but it took me a couple hours to de-stress from that experience), I prefer having the option of doing more than just grabbing a hairtie and stashing my emergency makeup bag in my purse after putting on clothes.
4. Do laundry on a regular basis to avoid a pile-up of 36 tops, 6 pairs of jeans, a month's worth of socks/underwear/sleep shirts, and all the hoodies I own rather than stopping at the mall after class to get new/clean pieces.
5. Leave MacDaddy Jr. at home at least once a week. This is possibly the hardest, it's tied with #2.

I seem to have kicked my caffeine habit over winter break because I only had two grande iced teas this afternoon but can't fall asleep 11 hours later. Oh well, I usually get blogposts done on nights like these. To elaborate on #3 though...

We all have those mornings where we wake up and know we should get up, shower, put pants on and make ourselves look somewhat presentable(or at least smell pleasant) but our beds are just so warm and comfy that it doesn't seem like a viable option. Personally, those mornings come about three times a week.

So, to make things a little easier, I started keeping a makeup bag with my absolute must-haves for when trading in sleep for putting makeup on in the bathroom at school is the deal.
Ta-da! Sparkly pink makeup bag filled with pretties :)

#1- Concealer. While I prefer to just wear a thing layer of foundation all over, with a little more product on areas that need more coverage, a concealer and powder will do the trick too. Since I don't use concealer all that often, I chose to skimp on this product and use Sephora brand Buildable Coverage Concealer. During winter months this concealer needs to be warmed in your hands or by the heater before applying; it's generally not a super-creamy concealer. It was $16 and it gets the job done but I probably will go for a drugstore product after this is finished. (bonus: no need to pack eyeshadow primer)

#2. Powder. MAC's Mineralize Skin Finish Natural is a good option for on-the-go beauty because it's a pressed powder and you won't have to worry about mess. I don't have any travel-sized face brushes so I just pack a fresh sponge whenever I bring it along.

#3. Eyeshadow palette. Unless I'm going through an obsession with a specific shadow, I like the palette option. This one from Nyx Cosmetics has some muted purples and soft browns that are easy to work with and don't require too much blending. The lighter colors are great highlights as well, but be warned that all except the dark brown in the lower right corner are shimmery. I'm a shimmer girl so I don't mind but I know some people like a simple matte look to prevent any chance of discoball syndrome.

#4. Eyeliner. Urban Decay sometimes offers travel-sized liners for $5 when you order online. I know I got bought online and got two others with some palettes/BOS. This one left my Alice BOS to join the cause :) Mascara is a non-essential; I'm an eyeliner addict so I could get by with just concealer and eyeliner if I'm really rushed.

#5. Tinted lip balm/chapstick. Cherry chapstick smells good, gives lips a rosy tint, and keeps them moisturized- all the bases are covered. The Hello Kitty apple lipbalm from Sephora is a really good one too, the texture is very thick and creamy so you feel like your lips are actually retaining their moisture after applying. Packing a lipstick has come to mind sometimes... who knows, maybe I'll start wearing lipstick every day and save the chapstick for night and windy days. Gloss looks cheesy on me, none of that business is gonna go on around here.

Midnight rambling has been a success- I feel sleepy and will probably get about 5 hours of sleep. School from 9-9 tomorrow. And they say being a student isn't a job...
